Creative Writing Collaborative

Bring the joy of writing back to your school

Writing confidence and creativity have dipped since 2020, and CWC exists to reverse that. A CWC chapter is an after-school creative writing club at your school: themed, story-driven workshops (fractured fairy tales, spooky stories, Magic Tree House–inspired adventures and more), led by trained high school ambassadors who were once in your students’ shoes. Kids experience it as the best hour of their week.

What CWC provides

  • A trained high school ambassador who plans and runs every session, recruited, interviewed and put through our leadership bootcamp
  • Ready-to-use curriculum and presentations, with no prep required from your staff
  • Printed student workbooks: brainstorming exercises, Do Nows and step-by-step guides for each lesson
  • An end-of-program keepsake magazine featuring every student’s writing
  • Full chapter setup and ongoing support, plus fresh themed units each cycle so students can return

What your school provides

  • A teacher as on-site advisor for supervision and a supportive environment (minimal prep)
  • A space to meet
  • A weekly after-school time slot

Why schools partner with us

  • Supports literacy and social-emotional learning goals, with near-zero lift for staff
  • Builds confidence, not just skills

How a session runs

  1. Icebreaker or Do Now
  2. Short lesson or mini grammar lesson
  3. Creative writing activity
  4. Independent writing on the cycle’s theme

A 10-week program covers two themed prompts, five weeks each. Students take one story from idea to finished draft:

  1. Wk 1Brainstorm
  2. Wk 2Intro
  3. Wk 3Middle
  4. Wk 4End
  5. Wk 5Peer editing

How to launch a chapter

  1. Reach out by email.
  2. Meet with us to see what a chapter looks like.
  3. Set the details: advisor teacher, room and weekly day.
  4. Kick off, usually in September or October.
  5. Publish the keepsake magazine at the end.
