Bring CWC to Your School

Bring the joy of writing back to your school

Your students write. Our ambassadors run the club.

Writing confidence and creativity have dipped since 2020, and Creative Writing Collaborative (CWC) exists to reverse that. A CWC chapter is an after-school creative writing club at your school, run by a trained high school ambassador who plans and leads every session.

Students work through themed, story-driven workshops (fractured fairy tales, spooky stories, Magic Tree House–inspired adventures and more), led by high school mentors who were once in their shoes. Kids don’t experience it as just another writing class. They experience it as the best hour of their week.

Everything is handled for you

What CWC provides

  • A trained high school ambassador who plans and runs every session. Ambassadors are recruited, interviewed and put through our leadership bootcamp before sessions start.
  • Ready-to-use curriculum and presentations, professionally designed, with no prep required from your staff.
  • Printed student workbooks with brainstorming exercises, Do Nows and step-by-step guides that pair with each lesson.
  • An end-of-program keepsake magazine featuring every student’s writing: a real audience for students and a keepsake for parents.
  • Full chapter setup and ongoing support from CWC’s leadership team, plus fresh themed units each cycle so students can return without repeating content.

What your school provides

  • A teacher as on-site advisor who provides supervision and a supportive environment. Minimal prep is required.
  • A space to meet, such as a classroom.
  • A weekly after-school time slot for the length of the program.

Why schools partner with us

  • Aligns with your literacy and social-emotional learning goals, with near-zero lift for your staff.
  • Helps students enjoy writing again and builds confidence, not just skills.
  • Connects your school to a growing community of young writers.

What a session looks like

Every chapter follows the same schedule, and students and the advisor teacher follow along in a printed workbook. Each weekly session runs in this order:

  1. Icebreaker or Do Now

A quick warm-up gets everyone talking and writing.

  2. Short lesson or mini grammar lesson

A focused lesson on a writing skill, or a grammar and common-mistakes mini-lesson (about 10–20 minutes).

  3. Creative writing activity

A hands-on activity, often in teams: swap characters and write each other’s backstories, write a scene in dialogue only, or pass a chapter around the group.

  4. Independent writing on the cycle’s theme

Students build their own story, step by step, with their workbook as a guide.

Across the program: one story, five weeks

A 10-week program covers two themed prompts, five weeks each. Over each prompt, students take one story from first idea to finished draft:

  1. Week 1Brainstorm
  2. Week 2Intro
  3. Week 3Middle
  4. Week 4End
  5. Week 5Peer editing

At the end of the program, every student’s writing is collected in the chapter’s keepsake magazine.

How a chapter launches

  1. Reach out

  2. Meet with us

  3. Set the details

Choose an advisor teacher, a room and a weekly after-school day.

  4. Kick off

Chapters usually start in September or October and run for 8–10 weeks.

  5. Publish
